Dodger Hator
Beer!
|
|
Beer and
sports go hand-in-hand. and if you like sports, you know that
the baseball playoff race is really heating up! With this
in mind, we have a brand new beer that is sure to please fans
of every baseball team out there. except one!
Dodger Hator,
a very tasty Weizenbock, is brewed only during the baseball
season and we have a limited supply left! Apparently the brewers
over at the Wheat Beer Company in Camino don't have much respect
for the boys in Dodger Blue and have released this beer for
all fans who at some time or another have hated the Dodgers.
This is a very well balanced
and full bodied beer that comes in beautiful, stopper-topped,
one-liter bottles. The labels are painted right on the glass
and the bottles can be reused time and time again - they make
great sports memorabilia souvenirs and are excellent gifts
for sports fans!

|

Send a
couple today before they're all gone!
Even
Dodger Fans will love the beer!

Because
the SF Giants are kickin' butt on everyone in baseball, Trever
decided that Dodger Hator should be enjoyed in mass quantities
this month! He's not only a big beer fan, but a huge Giants
fan as well!

Oktoberfest
in September... why?
|
 |
Every year throughout Europe,
the last batches of beer were historically brewed in March when
temperatures began to rise. This is because cooler temperatures
are needed for proper fermentation and there were no refers yet.
Well, when September rolled around and it was again time to boil
some fresh brew, all the old stuff in Europe was thrown out to
make room for the fresh beer!
The beer-loving Germans couldn't
stand this waste of good beer and would routinely raid neighboring
countries, bringing all the old beer back to Germany where they
would drink feverishly until October. By the time they finished
sweating off their hangovers, the majority of Germans didn't remember
that the month of September even existed - and this is why the
celebration held in September is called Oktoberfest!
I guess I can relate,
since I know of at least one weekend when a Saturday night seems
to be missing!

Grassfire
Wheat - Hook & Ladder Brewing Co.
|
|
Just a dream in 1998, the
Hook & Ladder Brewing Company served its first beer in December
of 1999! A former volunteer firefighter in Maryland, Rich Fleischer,
the owner and master brewer, moved out to California 7 years ago
and was amazed at the thriving microbrew industry he found. Soon
after tasting his first California microbrew, he started homebrewing
his own beer, one thing led to another and the rest is history...
With fire fighting in his blood,
Rich wanted to pay tribute to all the men and women who risk their
lives daily, so when he started up his own brewery, he decided to
follow a fireman's theme and The Hook & Ladder Brewing Company was
born!
Blaze, the Hook & Ladder dog
shown on the label of their beers is soon to be an actual mascot.
According to Rich, there is not yet any furry friend running around
the office, but he plans to get one really soon, as soon as he can
find one who's spots match those on the label!
Grassfire Wheat - Named
after the ridiculous amount of grass fires every summer in California,
this beer is very smooth with a slight touch of hops. This classic
American style Wheat Beer is the second beer bottled by the Hook
& Ladder Brewing Co. and as a matter of fact, the beer included
in this month's selection is from the very first batch ever brewed
for bottling! Consider yourself privileged, it's not every day you
get to taste the very first batch of any beer - unless you brew
it yourself.

Snowshoe
Pale Ale - Snowshoe Brewing Company
|
|
Snowshoe brewing Company has
two beautiful locations in the foothills of the gold-filled Sierra
Nevada Mountains: The original in Arnold and the other in Sonora.
The brewery was founded in 1995 by Jeff Yarnell and Al O'Brien to
salute the pioneering spirit of John "Snowshoe" Thompson.
Snowshoe Thompson was well
know for his faithful delivery of the mail to California gold camps
during the Gold Rush era in the mid 1800's. He would hand-carry
mail over the treacherous Sierra Nevada Mountains in the dead of
winter using homemade, long cross-country skis - called snowshoes
at that time.
The Snowshoe brewery just recently
released a new beer in 12oz bottles, their Snoweizen. They now have
three beers available in bottles: Snoweizen Wheat Beer, Grizzly
Brown Ale and Thompson Pale Ale.
Thompson Pale Ale is
an excellent pale ale that can be enjoyed by a very wide range of
beer drinkers. It doesn't have the dry, bitter aftertaste associated
with classic pale ale styles, but it has enough complexity to keep
the most seasoned beer drinkers interested. It adapts itself very
well to just about any meal. try one with dinner tonight! And remember
when you're drinking this one that some guy went through hell and
back to get his name on the label - be sure to savor every drop!

El
Toro Negro Oatmeal Stout - El Toro Brewing Company
|
|
The El Toro Brewing company
is located in the small commuter town south of San Jose, Morgan
Hill, California. It is family owned and run by Geno Acevedo and
his wife Cindy. Geno's dad helps out by representing the brewery
at many of the local microbrew festivals held throughout the summer.
Opened in April of 1994, the
brewery occupies its own building which originally housed a 17 bbl
brewhouse built by Newlands of British Colombia, an open primary
fermenter, a closed primary fermenter, and three secondary fermenters.
The first two beers available were the El Toro Oro Golden Ale and
a bit hoppier Poppy Jasper Amber Ale. El Toro now has five beers
available in 12oz bottles including an IPA, a wheat beer and the
El Toro Negro - Oatmeal Stout. We will be featuring some of these
other beers very soon as future Bunch of the Month selections.
El Toro Negro Oatmeal Stout
- A smooth dark beer, just the way an oatmeal stout should be. We
first tried this beer at the historic Jamestown Hotel in the old
gold rush town of Jamestown. At that moment we decided that we had
to carry it and feature it as one of our monthly selections so the
rest of America could get a taste of this excellent stout! Its roasty
taste will surely warm you around the campfire. Yummy...
