Welcome fellow beer-geek! If you who love to brew your own beer here is some information on what you can expect from the Black Tower Porter Mr. Beer refill, and in general, from ANY Porter.
Aroma:
An aroma of malt with some roastiness will be evident, and may have a chocolate characteristic. Porters will often also show some non-roasted malt characters like caramel, grains and bready scents, aromas of nuts and a toffee-like sweetness.
Appearance:
At first sight Porters will appear light to dark brown, often with ruby highlights when held up to light. Good clarity, although may approach being opaque. Moderate off-white to light tan head that will linger fairly well.
Flavor:
Porters will have malt flavor that are a bit roasty often with chocolate, caramel, nutty and toffee characteristics. Porter can also have other supporting flavors such as coffee, licorice, biscuits or toast.
Mouthfeel:
Medium-light to medium body with moderately low to moderately high carbonation.
Overall Impression:
