Santa Cruz Ale Works' IPA is another excellent example of how the brewers out on the West Coast have mastered the art of manipulating hops.
This beer style was originally designed by some very brilliant British beer-masters. The original IPAs were made with substantially more hops and alcohol in an effort to help the brew survive the long trips from Great Britain to India.
This lightly colored ale is very aggressively hopped from start to finish. From the first sip the hop bitterness and aroma are present and then round off nicely with a clean citrus finish. Including dry-hopping the brewers use over 30 lbs. per batch (2 lbs. per bbl) Approx 6.5% ABV
