The name, Russian Imperial Stout, would suggest that this is a brew created by the Russians; however, Old Rasputin is modern craft beer that pays tribute to the 18th century English brewers who created a dark beer for Catherine the Great and the Russian Imperial Court. Because of its popularity this big and intense English beer was soon being exported, with great regularity, from England to Russia.
