And it all started with a boy (a 32 yr old young man, actually) riding his bike (with fat tires) through Belgium with samples of two of his homebrews on him. It was the founder of New Belgium Brewing, Jeff Lebesch, who was the boy embarking on this wild beer adventure. Jeff sampled his Belgian brew straight to the Belgian people; and the response to the one sample he called Fat Tire was phenomenal, they loved it!

Jeff loved the Belgium approach to beer making and their free-ness to use so many different flavors when brewing. He brought back notes from his trip filled with encouragement from the kind Belgian folks along with their constructive suggestions. Once home, he perfected the beer which we are now able to enjoy.
